Factiva Expands Presence in Reputation Intelligence Marketplace

IBM’s Public Image Monitoring Solution Leverages Factiva Expertise

Factiva corporate press release November 7, 2005

New York - Factiva®, a Dow Jones and Reuters Company,

today announced that IBM will leverage Factiva’s premium business news

content and expertise for its Public Image Monitoring Solution - a new

software solution that enables businesses to monitor emerging social

networks on the Web and protect their brand reputation by rapidly responding

to changing public opinion about their company and products.

Public Image Monitoring Solution is designed to reside behind a company’s

firewall and allow organizations to uncover potential issues, identify and

address specific problems and help prevent the spread of negative opinions

affecting their brand.

“Companies are increasingly looking to technologies that enable them to

fully manage corporate reputation and help them to pay close attention to

what is being said not only in the media but in blogs, message boards and

online media too,” said Alan Scott, chief marketing officer, Factiva.

“Factiva provides that capability with the sophisticated tools to sift

though millions of pages of information, and visualize potential threats as

well as hard to spot opportunities. However, we realize that we have a

number of customers that want to leverage their existing IBM technology

investment, want a solution that resides behind the company firewall and

prefer to build versus buy.”

The Public Image Monitoring Solution is based on IBM WebSphere Information

Integrator OmniFind Edition, the first commercial platform for deploying

UIMA-based text analytics solutions. It also leverages multi-lingual text

analytics from Nstein Technologies’ Global Intelligent Information

Management technology platform.

Factiva’s partnership with IBM complements its recent move into the

reputation intelligence market. In August 2005, Factiva announced its own

Web-based reputation intelligence solution - Factiva Insight™: Reputation

Intelligence, a powerful new tool that for the first time empowers

executives to monitor known issues and discover emerging opportunities and

threats from across the mainstream media, radio and television transcripts

and consumer-generated content, including blogs and message boards, in one

solution. It also enables executives to create effective reputation and

brand management strategies that tie to business objectives and drive

competitive advantage.
