The World Tribuunal on Iraq has indicted media organisations, including the BBC for their role in aiding and abetting US and UK war crimes in Iraq. The World Tribunal received scant attention in the Western media and there have been no headlines reporting the findings on the media. The Tribunal issued its findings on 27th June after a gruelling and harrowing four day session hearing evidence. The charges laid 'Against the Major Corporate Media' were as follows:

The work of Historian Brian Murphy is shedding new light on the development of British propaganda in the early twentieth century. It reveals a hitherto unknown aspect to the largely suppressed history of covert British propaganda. Central to the propaganda effort based in Dublin Castle in between 1919-21 was a former Daily Mail journalist named Basil Clarke. Clarke and other British officials were centrally involved in the manipulation of media and public debate and in the full prosecution of the war against the republican movement.

In Istanbul the World Tribunal on Iraq brings together activists and experts for all over the world. The fact of the global anti-war movement is impossible to deny when faced with delegations from Japan, a photo exhibition by the South Korean movement, jurors from Argentina, Mexico and Brazil as well as Iraq. Most importantly there are more than twenty Iraqis here. Journalists, politicians, activists, human rights workers. Some, leaving Baghdad for the first time, exclaim in wonder at the Bosphorus having never seen the sea before.

We were please to see the interview with Brussels lobbying veteran Daniel Guéguen on the Euractiv site last week in which he admitted that lobbyists were involved in using 'manipulation, destabilisation or disinformation'. Such honesty is rare indeed in lobbying circles.
