Last week, Iain McWhirter's review of our book Arguments Against G8 in the Sunday Herald discussed some important issues but was woefully inaccurate. My letter to the Sunday Herald is below. McWhirter's piece is here: 'If more aid won't give this girl a better life, what will?' Sunday Herald By Iain Macwhirter 10 July, http://www.sundayherald.com/50686

The debate between Nicholas Bayne and Gill Hubbard and David Miller on the G8 posted today on Spinwatch was initiated by the Fabian Society in May this year. We have posted the full exchange on spinwatch, but the version on the Fabian Society website has been censored to remove information on the involvement of Nicholas Bayne in a corporate lobbying organisation.

7pm, July 6th: On the stewards bus on the way home to Glasgow. There's a guitar playing and singing in the back of our bus. Everyone is tired but in good form. We just had a great demo. Estimates of numbers vary between 5,000 and 10,000. Most of us stewards were at the front of the demo, just ahead of a range of prominent activists carrying the G8Alternatives banner, including Trevor Ngwane, Walden Bello, Rose Gentle, SSP MSPs, George Galloway MP, G8A organisers and others. | |

We arrived at George Square again on Wednesday morning at 9am. There was already a queue for the buses and a sizeable police presence. We had been getting texts about trouble in Stirling, roadblocks being set up. On the bus, not long out of Glasgow we were diverted away from the right road and told to take a circuitous route round. Some buses were actually diverted over the Forth road bridge.
